في حوار بين العود والإيقاع الشرقي، يدعوكم علي الفاروق وهاني بدير للانضمام إليهم في أمسية موسيقية يعزفان فيها مقطوعات من تأليف علي الفاروق وفنانين آخرين من مصر والشرق الأوسط.

علي الفاروق:

علي الفاروق هو عازف جيتار وعود مقيم بين مونتريال والقاهرة. هو عازف، مدرس وملحن ذو مشوار مهني يمتد ما يقرب من عقدين يشمل عروضا في مصر، كندا، الولايات المتحدة وسفن سياحية قامت بجولات حول جزر البهاما والجزر البريطانية. ألف وسجل موسيقى تصويرية للعديد من الأفلام والمسلسلات.

ولد ونشأ في مجتمع ذو تأثر غربي بالقاهرة، وتأثر مبكراً بموسيقى الروك والبلوز. بعد أن ازداد اهتمامه بموسيقى الجاز انتقل من القاهرة إلى مونتريال حيث الوسط الموسيقي النابض بالحياة ومتعدد الثقافات.

في عام 2015 قام بتكوين فرقته "مزاج" التي يعزف فيها العود، مع عازف الكونترباس مايك دي ماسي، وعازف الإيقاع الشرقي جوزيف خوري. تستمد موسيقى "مزاج" جزء من إلهامها من الموسيقى العربية الكلاسيكية وكذلك من مؤلفات لفنانين معاصرين تمتد أصولهم عبر الشرق الأوسط إلى الثقافات الغربية. التفاعل الموسيقي بين أعضاء الفرقة يسعى إلى التوازن الصحيح بين توزيعات متينة الأساس وإرتجالات تكسر الحدود.

في عام 2013 قام بإحضار فرقته من مقرها بمونتريال إلى القاهرة لإقامة حفل إشادة لموسيقى حمزة علاء الدين والنوبة بمهرجان القاهرة للجاز. وشملت الفرقة عازف الدرامز توماس ديورانت، وعازف الكونترباس مايك دي ماسي، وابن شقيقة حمزة علاء الدين المغني وعازف العود كرم مراد كضيف شرف.

في كندا، قام بالعزف مع مشاريع مختلفة في مهرجان مونتريال للموسيقى الجديدة، ومهرجان العالم العربي، ومهرجان صفارد ومهرجان ليالي أفريقيا بمونتريال وكذلك مهرجان ثقافات العالم بدروموندڤيل.

في مصر، قام بالعزف مع فرقته الجاز في مهرجان "جاز مانيا" الذي نظمه يحيى خليل بالقلعة وكذلك قام بالعزف بدار الأوبرا المصرية.

سجل كل أجزاء الجيتار في موسيقى تصويرية لفيلم "الطريق الدائري" لتامر عزت، وهو فيلم روائي طويل بمهرجان القاهرة السينمائي، لموسيقى تامر كروان. ألف وسجل موسيقى تصويرية لفيلم "عيدهم"، وهو فيلم قصير لريم مرسي مقدم من كلية لندن للسينما. سجل موسيقى تصويرية لفيلم "الباب"، وهو فيلم قصير لريم مرسي، لموسيقى أڤا كيباليان.

حاصل على شهادة الليسانس في عزف الجاز من كلية شوليك للموسيقى بجامعة ماكجيل، إحدى أكبر معاهد الموسيقى في كندا، وشهادة البكالوريوس بامتياز في دراسات الجاز من جامعة كونكورديا. درس الجاز جيتار مع كيني بيبيس، كارلوس خيمينيز، جريج كلايتون، جاري شوارتز، ومايكل بيرارد. درس موسيقى الجاز مع ريمي بولدوك، كيڤين ديين، فريزر هولينز، جان نيكولا تروتييه، تشارلز إليسون وديڤيد تيرنر. درس العود مع شربل روحانا، خليل مقدم، نيكولا أرتوسو، وعلاء صابر ودرس الموسيقى العربية مع سيمون شاهين.

هانى بدير:

هانى بديرعمل فى العديد من الأوركسترات لعدد من الفنانين الكبار أمثال الموسيقار : عمر خيرت - زياد رحبانى - نصير شمة - وجيه عزيز - والفرق الموسيقية مثل: إفتكاسات - نغم مصرى - دنيا مسعود باند - سلالم - مسار إجبارى - إسكندريللا .

وعزف مع معظم المطربين والمطربات المصريين والعرب سواء فى حفلاتهم أو ألبوماتهم الغنائية . واشترك فى عدد غير قليل من حفلات دار الأوبرا المصرية والكثير من المهرجانات العربية والعالمية

عمل مدرسآ لآلات الإيقاع الشرقية فى ( معهد دراسات الشرق الأوسط ) منذ أكتوبر عام 2000 ولمدة عشر سنوات , تدرب على يده عدد غير قليل من الطلبة الأمريكيين وفى خلال مدة لم تزد على ثلاثة أشهر تعلموا العزف على آلة الدربكة أو الطبلة ودرسوا قراءة النوتة وعدد من النظريات الموسيقية, ثم عندما انتهت مدة الثلاثة أشهر خصص لهم عرضآ لاستعراض مهاراتهم التى تعلموها .

وقد قام بتدريس جميع أنواع الإيقاعات الشرقية ( رق - طبلة - بونجو - أنواع الدفوف المختلفة - فى ( بيت العود ) التابع لوزارة الثقافة المصرية عام 2008 ولمدة عامين فى ( بيت الهراوى ) الموجود بحى الأزهر والذى أنشأه الفنان (نصير شمّه). وفى هذا المكان درس على يديه عدد من الطلبة من جنسيات مختلفة من العرب والأوروبيين والأمريكان وشرق آسيا . ويتضمن كل كورس تدريبات مكثفة لتقوية إستخدام الأيدى للعزف على الآلة ثم تطويرالتدريبات للوصول لمهارات أعلى .

كما أنه يهتم بتعليم كتابة النوتة الموسيقية وكيفية قراءتها بالغناء . قام بالتدريس فى متحف ( أمير الشعراء أحمد شوقى ) التابع لوزارة الثقافة عام 2010 لمدة ثلاثة أشهر . وقام بالتدريس أيضآ فى القسم الفنى (بمكتبة الإسكندرية ) منذ بداية عام 2011.

In a conversation between the oud and Arabic percussion, Ali El Farouk and Hany Bedair invite you to join them in a musical evening where they perform a repertoire that includes pieces by Ali El Farouk and other composers from Egypt and the middle east.

Biographies

Ali El Farouk:

Ali El Farouk is a guitarist and oud player based out of Montreal and Cairo. He is an active performer, teacher and composer with a professional career spanning almost two decades which include performances in Egypt, Canada, U.S.A. and cruise ships touring the Bahamas and the British Isles. He composed and recorded soundtracks for various films and series.

Born and raised in a western-influenced society in Cairo, his early influences were rooted in rock and blues. With a growing interest in jazz he moved from Cairo to Montreal where he immersed himself in Montreal’s vibrant and multicultural music scene.

In 2015 he formed his trio “Mazaag” consisting of himself on oud, Mike De Masi on upright bass, and Joseph Khoury on Arabic percussion. “Mazaag”'s music is partly inspired by classical Arabic repertoire as well as compositions by contemporary artists whose origins span across the middle east to western cultures. The musical interplay between the band members seeks the right balance between well-grounded arrangements and envelope-pushing improvisations.

In 2013 he brought his Montreal-based trio to Cairo to perform at the Cairo Jazz Festival a tribute concert to the music of Hamza El Din and the Nubia. The trio included Thomas Durant on drums, Mike De Masi on upright bass, and Hamza El Din’s nephew singer/oud player Karam Mourad as their guest artist.

In Canada, he performed with various projects at the Festival Montréal/Nouvelles Musiques, the Festival Du Monde Arabe, the Festival Sefarad and the Festival Nuits D’Afrique in Montreal as well as the Mondial des Cultures Festival in Drummondville.

In Egypt, he performed with his jazz trio at Yehya Khalil’s Jazz Mania Festival at the Citadel as well as performing at the Cairo Opera House.

He recorded all guitar parts on the soundtrack of Tamer Ezzat’s “The Ring Road”, a feature film at the Cairo Film Festival, for music by Tamer Karawan. He composed and recorded music for “Their Feast”, a short film by Reem Morsi and presented by the London Film School. He recorded music for “The Door”, a short film by Reem Morsi, for music by Ava Kibalian.

He holds a Licentiate degree in Jazz Performance from McGill University’s Schulich School of Music, one of Canada’s top music institutes, and a Bachelor’s degree with Distinction in Jazz Studies from Concordia University. He studied jazz guitar with Kenny Bibace, Carlos Jimenez, Greg Clayton, Gary Schwartz, and Michael Berard. He studied jazz with Remi Bolduc, Kevin Dean, Fraser Hollins, Jean-Nicolas Trottier, Charles Ellison and Dave Turner. He studied oud with Charbel Rouhana, Khalil Moqadem, Nicolas Artuso, Alaa Saber and he studied Arabic music with Simon Shaheen.

He was featured as ‘artist of the month’ in the December 2010 issue of Community Times Magazine, Egypt's foremost community information magazine.

Hany Bedair:

He worked as a session Musician in Singles for: The Soundtrack for Asal Eswed (feat. Ahmed Helmy) composed by Omar Khairat Khaled Selim, Ayda El¬Ayoubi, Salalem Band, and many more. He performed in the following international festivals: 1. San Jose Jazz Festival (USA) 2. Panasco Jazz Festival (twice in Bulgaria) 3. Nichville Jazz Festival (twice in Serbia) 1 4. He worked as a teacher of Oriental Percussions – Institute of Middle East Studies (MESP) Oct 2000 – Current (10 years) 8-15 American Students holders of a scholarship to learn Oriental Percussions (Darabuka) in a 3-months semester, teaching them basics of Darabuka on to the intermediate level, how to read musical notes and the study of several music theories. The course ends with a concert showing the skills of the students and what they learned.

He worked as a teacher of percussions at the Arab House of OUD – Egyptian Ministry of Culture Headed by Naseer Shamma Aug 2008 – Current (2 years) Teacher of All kinds of Hand Percussions (Req, Darabuka, Cajoun, Djembe, Frame Drum, Bongo, Congas, Udu Drum) 1 At Bait Al-Harrawi, Azhar, with multinational students (Arabs, Europeans, Americans, Far easterns) The Course includes, Hand Techniques, Reading and writing solfège notes, Rhythmic exercises to enhance technique. All students take part in concerts at Bait El OUD on a regular basis.
