About the artists…

Tania Mesa http://www.barcelonaethnicband.com/ Tania Mesa is a multitalented violinist and singer. Classically trained, she moved on to explore music from different traditions. She was a core member of the Barcelona Ethnic Band whose repertoire stretches from the Palestinian gipsy jazz, to the Norwegian «halling», passing the Arabic and the Celtic culture visiting the Balkan countries. Originally from the Canary Islands and then Spain, her talents caught the attention of Palestinian-American oud and violin virtuoso Simon Shaheen who invited her to join his Qantara Berklee Ensemble in Boston where she is currently based.

Ali El Farouk www.facebook.com/alielfaroukmusic Originally from Egypt, guitarist and oud player Ali El Farouk relocated to Montreal to study jazz guitar and to enrich and immerse himself in its vibrant music scene. Drawing his inspiration from the rich jazz language he recently began revisiting his Arabic music roots as he gradually establishes himself on the oud and classical Arabic music. His took his Montreal-based trio to perform a jazz tribute to Hamza El Din at the Cairo Jazz Festival in 2013. In the same year he performed with the Oudistique Ensemble at the Festival Du Monde Arabe in Montreal.
